Shahabuddin Muhammad Shah Jahan was born on 5 January in 1592. He was the fifth Mughal Emperor of India from 1628 to 1658. His birth name was Prince Khurramand he was the son of Emperor Jahangir and his Hindu Rajput wife, Taj Bibi Bilqis Makani.The period of his reign was considered the golden age of Mughal architecture. Shah Jahan erected many monuments, the best known of which is the Taj Mahal at Agra, built in 1632–1654 as a tomb for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. This World heritage monument is depicted on stamps from countries all around the world. India too has commemoratives stamps to celebrate various occasions.
The extravagant wealth at the time of the Great Mughals is also reflected in their coinage. The Mughal emperors of India have the reputation that they struck the largest gold coin of the world. Shah Jahan had issued particularly gigantic gold Mohurs which had beautiful and extremely rare gigantic coins, with very refined calligraphy and workmanship.
